LimKokWing University of Creative Technology

Is it just me or is LimKokWing University having some problems? The lecturers seem to be leaving, at least the good ones. And the new ones are.. well.. below par. The management seems to be in havoc most of the time. They lose your documents and claim you didn't send it in. Or you send it in to someone else but it doesn't get through to the proper department. When it comes to money, they always accuse you of not paying your dues when you actually have. Am I missing something here?

Before I came to LimKokWing University, I had this grand vision of being in a university widely known for being creative, fashionable, international, etc. I imagined LimKokWing as an elite University with talented students walking around all fashionably dressed and coming from different parts of the world. Well, I must admit, they are very creative. The design of the campus (the paint-over walls and ceilings?), the products, and the image. And some of the students do dress up fashionable. Being a design university, it's expected and somewhat enjoyable to observe these students. LimKokWing's marketing has been successful overseas considering the number of students coming in each intake. I'm not so sure of their ethical approach when promoting the university overseas, but it seems to be working. For now.

However, when it comes to the nitty-gritty of education, i.e the quality of lecturers and subjects offered, I would say that there is still a lot that LimKokWing should improve. First of all, this is an international University. The international lingua-franca is English. It is the medium of teaching and learning. Is it not? Therefore, in an international University, shouldn't the lecturers be fluent in English so as to ensure that ALL students from all over the world would be able to understand him/her? And that is just ONE of the requirements of being a lecturer in an international university. But, are the lecturers to be blamed?

In any organisation, the leader or top management dictates how the overall culture of the organisation would be like. When problems occur, it is the top management's priority to come up with solutions. However, if the top management fails to do so, because of poor leadership, negligence, or denial, then the whole organisation will start to fall. Failure to acknowledge problems in an organisation may lead to employees feeling demotivated, which translates into poor service offered. In LimKokWing's case, the top management is obviously too busy with their world-wide expansion activities to notice the problems that are brewing here in the home base.

LimKokWing has succeeded in creating a wonderful image for this University so much so that when people hear that you are studying here, they go 'Wow'. At least I did, before I came here. It is a shame that this image would soon dissolve when people start finding out the truth. When students start to leave. When employees begin to resign. Some students may not care about the quality of education or the poor management, but a majority would like to learn something in University. After all, isn't that why we all came here?
